The 412th FS uses a military type ranking system. The ranks are intended to be followed for squad activities and each member is expected to organize with the highest ranking member on line, should there be a call for an organized mission plan. If there is an organized activity in progress when a higher ranking member enters the arena, the orders in process are not to be over-turned unless the originator of the orders has either gone off line, or reliquishes command to the new ranking officer on line.
Ranks History:
When the squadron was formed on 04/12/2001 new members entered into the squadron with a rank of Technical Sergeant, and officer ranks were issued from the CO based upon knowledge of the pilot and gerneral experience level.
In October, 2001, the ranking system was changed. All new members were required to go through a two week 'boot-camp' as an initiation period. During their boot-camp, the member was issued the rank of Private First Class ans was expected to learn the ways of the 412th from the other current members. Advancing in rank was based on time served, and each tour, the members would be promoted in rank until they reached the level of Technical Sergeant. Once again, the officer ranks were issued based upon the CO's impressions of the member and the member's participation in the squadron.
Starting February, 2002, the ranking is is again changed. This time, every rank has specific goals which must be acheived in order to obtain the given rank. With each rank description, the requirements for achieving the rank are listed for both the Ribbons and Skill Badges needed. At the time the candidate is eligable for the promotion, the Ranking officers will disscuss the promotion and pass a vote as to the fitness of the candidate to recieve the promotion.
Existing members not already meeting the requirements of their ranks have four months to complete them. Any member failing to do so shall have their rank modified to fit their current status. The squadron CO will make himself available to all members who ask for help in meeting their rank requirements.

Major | Major it the rank assigned to the Squad CO. Currently, there is no ranking higher than Major in the 412th FS.

Captain | Captain is the rank assigned to the squad XO and XOa. The XO or "Executive Officer" is second in command. The XOa, or "Executive Officer Auxciliary" is third in command.
XO and XOa have squadron perrmissions for inviting new recruits into the squad.

1st Lt. | First Lieutenants are flight leaders. In order to achieve this rank, members must remain with the squad for at least three full TODs. Candidates are expected to express an interest in leadership and promoting the squadron in the MA. First Lieutenants are expected to take the leadership role whenever the CO or XO are not available.

2nd Lt. | Second Lieutenants are section leaders. In order to achieve this rank, members must remain with the squad for at least two full TODs. Candidates must show strong teamwork and communication skills and not hesitate to make decisions when presented with a problem.

Technical Sergeant | Members achieve the rank of Technical Sergeant at the start of their forth full TOD with the squad or by the recomendation of a higher ranking officer, based upon their performance in the squadron.

Staff Sergeant | Members can achieve the rank of Staff Sergeant after the start of their third full TOD with the squad.

Sergeant | Members can achieve the rank of Sergeant after the start of their second full TOD with the squad.

Corporal | Once a recruit has become an official member of the squad, they receive the rank of Corporal. This rank remains with them until they complete their first full TOD with the squad and finish the required.
